Medals
of Merit 1883-1887 (1st Type
Alexander I Young Head)
Medals of Merit were instituted
24th March 1883 by Alexander I. to compliment the Order of Merit.
It was awarded primarily to NCO's and soldiers for acts of merit
in peace and war. The Gold Medal was struck in Silver Gilt and
worn on a red triangular ribbon on the left breast. and after
1912 sometimes the war ribbon
